Abstract

Encephaloceles are malformations that results in extravasation of intracranial contents due to absence of suture in the cranium. They can occur in the occipital, parietal temporal and frontal regions, and the most common region affected is the occipital. Among encephaloceles there is a rare form called Giant encephalocele, which can achieve the dimensions of the skull. Giant encephaloceles always are a challenge for Neurosurgeons and there are few cases reported in literature. Two cases are reported, one 25 day-old baby with a lobulated lesion with cystic of great dimensions in parietal region, without other alteration in the moviments or central nervous system. The other one is a 9 month-old child with ruptured occipital encephaloce, and presenting neurological deficits.
